The Lightweight Network

Lightweight construction development network presented at international sector meetings

14.02.2007

The information platform lightweight.network founded by the Egger, Hettich and Rehau groups will have its own logo in the future.

The information platform lightweight.network founded by the Egger, Hettich and Rehau groups will have its own logo in the future. This will create a uniform outward appearance intended to make it more accessible for interested companies that could be prospective customers. The same also applies to manufacturers and institutions wishing to join the network. In this way, the network will also stress the importance of the subject of lightweight construction for the entire furniture sector and emphasise the advantages and possible applications in matching systems. In future, the network partners will present their system solutions for frameless lightweight constructions and move developments forwards under the umbrella of the lightweight.network logo. The developed and matching, extensive applications and processing techniques for frameless lightweight construction will be presented for the first time at the ZOW exhibition in Bad Salzuflen (26th February – 1st March 2007, Hall 23 E2) and the LIGNA+ in Hanover (14th – 18th May 2007, Hall 19 D10) with a common exhibition concept and appearance.

For months, the three companies have conducted intensive development work to develop solutions for hardware, edging and processing techniques for frameless lightweight boards. As early as the end of August last year, EGGER began in its headquarters plant at
St. Johann in Tyrol (Austria) with the first industrial production plant world-wide for the lightweight board Eurolight and in this way has launched a new era in furniture construction. Due to intensive co-operation with Rehau, market leader in the development and production of high-quality, innovative, polymer-based edgeband solutions, and Hettich as a leading supplier of hardware solutions, new impetus can now be provided together.

Customers will also benefit from the co-operation. Whilst Egger supplies the central part with the Eurolight lightweight board, Rehau and Hettich provide important components for processing. With its special supporting edgeband technology, the Rehau basic edge, the polymer processor Rehau offers a specially developed solution for edging frameless lightweight boards which makes industrial production possible. The hardware specialist Hettich completes the range perfectly with its two-part adhesive plugs, which make a secure joint between the hardware and the board.

Lightweight construction in focus at the ZOW and LIGNA+
At the most important exhibitions of 2007, the lightweight.network will provide a significant platform for the topic of lightweight construction and will provide extensive information on application-oriented solutions and their processing. Egger, Hettich and Rehau will be present at the ZOW exhibition in Bad Salzuflen and also at the LIGNA+ exhibition in Hanover with a joint exhibition stand. The matching, complete solutions for lightweight board processing will be on show there. The presentation topics are geared specifically towards the user and deal with the following key areas: the office, kitchen, bathroom, living room, bedroom, interior design and exhibition and shop furnishings. Apart from its attractive appearance, something which is increasingly being demanded by end users, the particular benefit of the frameless lightweight board Eurolight is the fact that it weighs less and is therefore particularly easy to handle. However, these two advantages of the product are only now becoming available to furniture designers and interior architects with the industrial production that has now begun. The new material has various possible applications; in doors, cupboards, partitions, tables and worktops. Another benefit is the low consumption of materials in the production of lightweight boards – at a time of wood shortages and increasing raw material costs, this is a genuine saving for manufacturers and customers.

Common logo and internet site
The lightweight.network information platform can be recognised immediately by customers by way of its common logo. The co-operation will also launch its own Internet site in good time for the exhibitions, through which all of the details on the topic of lightweight construction and the partners’ products can be accessed.
