Lightweight.Network received prize-winning recognition at ZOW’s inaugural M Technology Awards.

The significance of lightweight boards for the furniture industry received prize-winning recognition at ZOW’s inaugural M Technology Awards.

The ‘lightweight.network’, which is a collaboration between Egger, Europe’s leading wood-based panel manufacturer, Hettich and Rehau, received the ‘Best Service’ Award at ZOW 2007.

Egger’s collaboration with Rehau, a market leader in edgeband processing, and Hettich, one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of furniture fittings, aims to create production-ready system solutions, which are tailored to manufacturing processes in the furniture industry and interior construction.

Key to the network is the development of compatible solutions in hardware, chamfering, and processing technology, especially for frameless lightweight boards.  It aims to support each company that is involved in the process along the supply chain, to the benefit of users and consumers.

On receiving the award, EGGER’s head of sales and marketing, Ulrich Bühler, said: “The lightweight.network will pave the way for the industry and the ‘Best Service Award’ confirms our commitment to collaboration.”

Meanwhile, Norbert Streveld, Divisional Manager Furniture, from Rehau AG + Co, added: “We’re very happy to accept this recognition at the first M Technology Awards.”

The ‘M Technology Award’ is presented by the International Forum Design in co-operation with M magazine and celebrated its inauguration at this year’s ZOW.

Entries included innovative products developed by suppliers, designers, agencies, importers and specialty retailers.  Altogether nine categories saw 62 submissions and a total of ten awards.

The jurors were Elke Kaiser from the BDIA (German association of interior architects), Ruth Berktold from yes architecture, Nils Holger Moormann from Moormann Möbel GmbH (a furniture design company), Achim Nagel from TWO design, Henning Peitsmeier from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper and Rolf Warda with warda design
