EGGER, Europe’s leading wood-based panel manufacturer, previewed its latest décor innovations at ZOW this year and had a continuously packed stand at Bad Salzuflen as a result.
A total of over 40 new decors were presented, including textured Uni colours, expressive exotic woods, natural looking fantasy and woodgrain decors.
The theme was to ‘set accents - experience textures’ which sees different combinations of woodgrains, Uni colours and textures create stunning looks.
Strong Uni colours can be used to create accent areas in partnership with traditional woodgrains, the look can also be reversed so that more expressive woodgrains would serve as counterpoint areas set against broad brush Uni colours. With this in mind, EGGER has seized on both décor and texture innovations to meet growing consumer expectations, which demand that the visual and tactile nature of products compliment each other perfectly.
Positive feedback from visitors confirmed the company’s investment strategy. “Judging by how busy our stand was throughout the exhibition and the comments people were making, I’m certain we got it just right,” said Nick McClughin, EGGER UK’s marketing manager based at their recently revitalised plant in Hexham, Northumberland.
EGGER identified a number of trends over the five days. Out of the 40 new decors introduced by EGGER at ZOW, the highlights included:
Lancaster Oak: Designed with the UK in mind, Lancaster Oak is a very natural decor with a narrow flowered design and small knots. Its appearance is livelier than the successful striped decor Ferrara Oak, yet is not as rustic in character as the pippy-style Winchester Oak. Great in bedrooms and office furniture, and especially with solid timber doors in kitchens.
Urbano: Urbano represents a teak reproduction that displays very strong, linear elements. Its features, when combined with the ST22 grained surface, have the effect of a matching surface texture and gives the decor a “naturalness” that comes very close to that of a veneer.
Cordoba Olive: Unusual woods are very much in demand. The Cordoba Olive is a Mediterranean wood available in two colours which has a striking appearance because of the contrasting colours and rustic elements. This design is a typical accent decor that can be combined very well with light Uni colours.
Other styles that were much in demand were woodgrains with sap-markings and very natural-looking, wood reproductions with a strong character and deep, tactile surfaces.
Textures: The ST22 Matex texture is proving increasingly popular. It is a deep-brushed finish with both a glossy and matt linear grain and offers a realistic wood-like finish and is combined with linear grained woodgrains and Fantasy decors.
Worktops: Tarnished metal surfaces are frequently used design elements. Until now, these surfaces were to be found mainly as flooring or wall tiles. However, this trend has now found its way into the worktop area.
Another major success for EGGER at ZOW 2007 was the first showing of Eurolight, the company’s lightweight board. Based on an innovative construction method, the Eurolight boards open up fresh dimensions for furniture construction and interior fittings markets.
Combining a lightweight honeycomb centre sandwiched between thin chipboard surface layers, the Eurolight panels offer a low weight yet stable product solution that frees designers from the restrictions associated with traditional panels.
Nick McClughin said: “They received a great deal of interest from customers at ZOW especially as we were able to announce that 50mm Eurolight full boards (2800 x 2070mm with 8mm surface layers) in eight decors will soon be available from stock in Hexham.”
Eurolight boards also form the central part of the llightweight.network which brings together the companies of Egger, Hettich and Rehau in an alliance that is geared towards lightweight-board construction. The objectives being production-ready system solutions that are tailored to manufacturing processes in the furniture industry and interior construction.
The network – which was launched at ZOW – won the M Technology Award in the ‘Service’ category.
