"Booking" for MDF

Consistent use of materials and design forms defines the reading room in the new Saxonian federal state library in Dresden
|
The Saxonian federal state library - state and university library in Dresden, or SLUB for short, had to build all the fittings for its new reading rooms – including almost 900 tables, benches, shelves, cupboard walls, display cases, occasional furniture and lights – itself. When it came to materials, MDF was the universal choice. Formline MDF from Egger offers unlimited design scope: laser-cut, lacquered or coated with decorative laminates, for example. |

For the functional furniture alone, 9600 m2 of Formline MDF in thicknesses of between 15 and 50 mm were used. MDF defines the whole interior; as if to underline the functional design, the walls and ceilings are also panelled in arbitrarily decorated wood-coloured fibreboard complete with milled channels for soundproofing. |
