How we make chipboard...

The production of chipboard and other wood-based panels by Egger is one of the most environmentally friendly and energy efficient manufacturing processes in the world. We have been developing and refining this process for over 40 years.

  Raw materials
Wood from sustainable managed forests, hack-chips, off-cuts and sawdust by-products from timber industries, recycled wood from packaging and furniture industries.

  Material preparation
Chipped into chips and dried, where a moisture content of between 100% and 150% is reduced to 2%. This moisture is processed and released from the chimney as cleaned steam.

Forming & pressing
Resin, wax and emulsion is added to the graded chips (core and surface layers), then the ‘mattress’ is formed and passes through the new ‘ContiRoll’ press under intense heat and pressure.

  Finishing
The pressed boards are then cooled, cut to length and sanded.

The majority of the panels are then left for at least two days to condition before being further processed by either coating them with decorative paper (Lamination) or profiled to make tongue and groove panels.
