What is the fire resistance for EGGER Protect boards?

 > EGGER UK Laminated chipboard is produced to Euroclass D S2d0.
 > EGGER P5 is produced in accordance with Bs476 to Surface Spread of Flame Class 3.
 > EGGER Protect has a Surface Spread of Flame Class 2 - This board has also been assessed as having a fire resistance rating of 30 minutes load bearing capacity, 15 minutes integrity and 15 minutes insulation by the BBA.
 > 38mm HDX also meets the requirments of the old Class 3 which is now replaced by the European standardDs-s2 D0, and is the only board available with a "O" fire rating foil.

EGGER Protect complies with part E 40 decibel - Please contact us for details

What are the sound acoustics of EGGER boards?

Sound absorption coefficients given in E13986:2002 are 0.1 in the 250Hz -500Hz range and 0.25 in the 1000-2000 Hz range

There is no green dye in the moisture resistant board, is there any way I can check it is moisture resistant?

Although EGGER boards P5 and PCX no longer have their visible green surface, they remain  CE certified as complying with P5 grade and are clearly identified through their surface stamp and packaging, i.e. E1 P5, you can be assured that this change does not alter the quality in any way.

How is an EGGER Protect floor cleaned?

EGGER Protect boards should be cleaned with a pH neutral floor cleaning solution or simply brushed to achieve a clean finish

What board do you recommend for flat roofing?

We recommend that 18mm EGGER Protect is used at 400mm centers, for further information please visit http://www.wpif.org.uk/

What board do you recommend for use with underfloor heating?

We only recommend EGGER Protect be used due to its far superior dimensional stability over that of standard P5 particleboards and other wood based panels.  Other wood based panels are much more prone to movement from changes in moisture which may be accelerated through underfloor heating.  Additionally, the EGGER Protect board having protection to both the topside and underside offers a more stable and enduring product as well as minimising any potential emissions from the wood based panel itself due to this moisture content cycling.  For further information on EGGER Protect please click here

How do you lay vinyl on top of EGGER boards?

It is a recommendation in line with Codes of Practice -BS 8203, BS EN 7916 and BS 5325 that for all overlays the sub floor must be clean, rigid and flat. When thin or shiny floor surface materials are laid over EGGER boards these materials may allow board joints to show through, particularly after trafficking. Prior to laying such materials, the board joints should be checked for level. It is permissible to sand off any raised areas not exceeding 1mm. For raised areas greater than 1mm, additional levelling materials are required. Thin plain coloured carpets or vinyls or those with a high sheen - tend to show small irregularities to a greater degree than thicker, patterned, matt and textured materials. For thin vinyls and tiling, it is recommended that a plywood overlay (4mm) is fixed in position, staggering joints so as not to coincide with board joints. The plywood should be fixed every 100mm using appropriate nails or screws around perimeter and 150mm apart elsewhere, ensuring they do not protrude above the surface.

What board do you recommend for kitchens/bathrooms?

EGGER Protect when correctly installed with the T&G profile glued and any cut edges sealed with moisture resistant EGGER D4 adhesive to protect the core of the board from moisture ingress is guaranteed to perform satisfactorily in Kitchens and Bathrooms. For further information on EGGER Protect please click here

What are the "U" values of EGGER T&G / EGGER Protect?

U-values express the rate of thermal conduction across a complete building element. They are expressed in Watts per square metre per degree Kelvin. The lower the U value, the better the insulation.  EGGER Protect 0.14 W/m2K

How do you tile to EGGER boards?

EGGER Protect has superior dimensional stability over that of standard P5 particleboard and other wood based panels, which are more prone to movement from changes in moisture that may be accelerated through underfloor heating.  EGGER Protect also has protection to both sides of the board offering a more stable and enduring product as well as minimising any potential emissions from the wood based panels itself due to this moisture content cycling.  The superior qualities also allow ceramic tiles to be laid directly onto EGGER Protect.  It is recommended that P5 V313 should have a Plywood overlay to enhance the rigidity of the floor, (minimum thickness should be 4mm).

The back and edges of the board should be treated against the ingress of atmospheric moisture by using EGGER D4 Adhesive.  Tiles should not bridge joints between boards.  If the board is to receive natural stone tiles it should be fixed using stainless steel screws to avoid surface staining.

Due to the moisture resistant properties of EGGER boards we do not recommend the use of cement/sand mortars and instead recommend the use of a specialist tile adhesive that complies with the requirement s of a C2 type of adhesive as defined in BS EN ISO 12004, specially formulated for use over timber backgrounds that "flex".  Please contact us for details.

What happens if the EGGER P5 boards get wet?

P5 board is moisture resistant but should not be allowed to get wet as such.  Should the board get wet it may cause swelling of the board but once dried out the board should return almost to its former dimensions, the strength of the board will only be slightly impaired (ageing the board by approximately 5 years).

If you are concernedabout the board properties or if a heavy load is intended to be put on top of the board we recommend putting an overlay of 4mm plywood to strengthen the board.  If an uneven surface has resulted, up to 1mm may be sanded off the boards to help obtain a level surface, however sanding more than 1mm will affect the strength of the board considerably.

Does 22mm board on 400 centres need its perimeter edges supporting?

Yes.  All short edges and perimeter edges must be supported on joists or noggins.
